India is set to kick off their Champions Trophy adventure against Bangladesh on Thursday. And captain Rohit Sharma is just a few runs away from one of the really big milestones: touching the 11,000-run mark-and all this while playing at the venue of the Dubai International Stadium.
If Rohit manages to do this, he would be—just after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli-rank among the elite club of 10 cricketers to cross the mark of 11,000 ODI runs.
He would become the second-fastest Indian batter to achieve that milestone if Rohit accomplished the job against Bangladesh. This event will take place in 260 innings of Rohit’s career in 50 overs-the second Indian batter surpassing the feat: Sachin Tendulkar completing those runs in 276 innings.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on the Cusp of Major Milestones

Virat Kohli is yet another gentleman nearing a world record with an opportunity to overtake Sachin Tendulkar. In the Group A match against Bangladesh, the right-handed batter could score 14,000 ODI runs if he added the remaining 37 runs to his tally. After all, the former India captain has scored 13,963 runs already in 297 ODI matches.
Kohli is also acutely poised to set yet another record. He is now just 90 runs shy of becoming the first Indian to score 1,000 runs in one-day internationals against Bangladesh. In his 16 matches against the Bengal Tigers, he made 910 runs at an average of 55.56, including five centuries and three fifties.
Tendulkar got to 14,000 ODI runs in the 350th inning of his 378th ODI against Pakistan in Peshawar on February 6, 2006. Judging by Kohli’s phenomenal form and consistency, he very likely will break this record and write a new chapter in ODI cricket.
