Rohit Sharma And Yashasvi Jaiswal Not To Take Part In Mumbai’s Upcoming Ranji Trophy Match: Reports

Mumbai’s key players, Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, are expected to miss the team’s upcoming Ranji Trophy clash, as reported by ‘India Today’. The 42-time champions are set to face Meghalaya in their final group match, starting Thursday, January 30.

All three players featured in Mumbai’s previous Ranji Trophy game against Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Academy Ground in BKC, where the team suffered a five-wicket defeat within three days. However, none of them made notable contributions in the match.

Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper, who had a disappointing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scored just three runs in the first innings and 28 off 35 balls in the second. Yashasvi Jaiswal managed a total of 30 runs across two innings, while Shreyas Iyer could only muster 28 runs over both innings.

All three players are part of India’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against England, beginning February 6, with matches on February 9 and 12, leading up to the 2025 Champions Trophy. For Yashasvi Jaiswal, this will be his ODI debut, providing an opportunity to impress ahead of the tournament.

Mumbai Falls to Jammu & Kashmir in Five-Wicket Defeat

Mumbai suffered a surprising five-wicket loss to Jammu & Kashmir in their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match. Shardul Thakur’s half-century helped Mumbai reach 120, but Jammu secured an 86-run first-innings lead.

The hosts endured another batting collapse, but a resilient 184-run partnership between Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian for the eighth wicket spared Mumbai from complete embarrassment. They were eventually dismissed for 290, setting a target of 205 for the visitors.

Jammu chased the target comfortably, winning with five wickets to spare. Mumbai now faces a must-win game against Meghalaya and will also rely on favorable results elsewhere to stay in contention for a Ranji Trophy quarterfinal spot.
