Mumbai’s 17-year-old batter Ayush Mhatre had a memorable fanboy moment as he posed for a picture with India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, and shared it on Instagram. Calling Rohit his idol, Mhatre described the chance to meet and get clicked with the star cricketer as a surreal experience.
Rohit, who recently had a poor Test series in Australia with just 31 runs in five innings, made himself available for the ongoing Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai. However, he managed only scores of 3 and 28 in the two innings.
Despite his brief time at the crease, Rohit’s presence in the dressing room was a huge motivation for Mhatre. The young batter shared the special moment on Instagram, captioning the picture:
“Started playing cricket by watching him bat on television to sharing a dressing room with my idol was such an unreal moment. Lots of learning to take forward #dreamcometrue.”

The young talent smashed 148 off 93 balls against Saurashtra at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, hitting 13 fours and nine sixes. Additionally, Mhatre has taken seven wickets with his off-spin in List A cricket.
Rohit Sharma to Lead India in ODIs Against England and Champions Trophy
Following a disappointing Test series as both batter and captain in Australia, questions arose about Rohit Sharma’s future in international cricket. However, the selectors have decided to back him for ODIs.
The experienced batter has been appointed captain for the three-match home ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy, set to take place from February 19 to March 9.
