Team India cricketer Rohit Sharma is all set to join the side in Australia after clearing the fitness test on December 11 (Friday) at the National Cricket Academy, BCCI said in a statement. Rohit has completed his rehabilitation process at the NCA in Bengaluru and is now clinically fit.
Initially, Rohit was not named in any of the three squads when the BCCI announced the team last month. The batsman was nursing a hamstring injury and the selectors decided against including him in the squads. He, however, returned to action soon for Mumbai Indians and was later included in the Test squad. The right-handed batsman was not included in the limited-overs squad as a precautionary measure.
Rohit Sharma to travel to Australia
He has been rehabilitating and training at NCA since 19th November following a high-grade left hamstring injury suffered during the Indian Premier League (IPL). The NCA medical Team was satisfied with the physical fitness of Mr Sharma after assessing him on different metrics that tested his skills related to batting, fielding and running between the wickets.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma will be in quarantine following his landing in Australia. He has been given a detailed programme to follow for the duration of the two weeks he will be quarantined for. The medical team will assess his fitness status after completing his quarantine following which a call on his participation in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be taken.
The management will want a fit Rohit Sharma with Virat Kohli missing the last Tests. He will be returning to India to be by his wife Anushka Sharma’s side who is expecting the birth of her first child.
The four-match series will commence from December 17 in the pink-ball match in Adelaide.
