Rohit Sharma is currently in Australia and completing his quarantine in Sydney. The star batsman after passing a fitness test at National Cricket Academy (NCA) was cleared to fly to Australia for the last 2 Test matches. The team management is hoping that Rohit features in the playing XI of the Sydney and Brisbane Test.

Now as per a report in Cricbuzz, Rohit might join the Indian camp on December 30 almost a week before the new year’s Test at Sydney. If this happens then Rohit will have to shift base from Sydney to Melbourne and then reach Sydney again with the entire team for the third Test.

The predicament is that there has been a sudden COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney again which is why it looks difficult for Rohit to join the Indian team on December 30. According to the report the BCCI had requested CA to allow Rohit to quarantine in Melbourne so that it becomes easier for him to immediately to join the rest of the squad in the same city.

However, the request had been turned down and the Indian board was informed that Rohit would stay in a hotel room, chosen by the Victoria government (like any other overseas traveller). Rohit is still in Sydney and has been confined to a 2-bedroom apartment where he can train indoors. The 33-year-old is eager to step on the park and feature in the last two Test matches against Australia.

“He (Rohit) doesn’t need to move from Sydney. He is safe and is in a bio-secure environment undergoing quarantine. While he is alone in his room, the Indian board as well as the team management is constantly in touch with him. If there was an emergency or if we felt that he needed to get out of Sydney, we would. But for now, he is completely safe there”, a BCCI official had asserted as quoted by ANI.
