Rohit Sharma is currently grinding it out at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to attain peak fitness. The star Indian batsman is working hard on his fitness as he wants to stay injury-free for non-stop cricket action next year. Rohit injured his hamstring during IPL 2020 and didn’t board the flight to Australia along with the Indian team.

Rohit will reportedly be having a fitness test on December 11 at the NCA which will decide whether or not he will travel to Australia for the last 2 Tests. According to a BCCI source, Rohit is determined and conscious about his fitness standards. The 34-year-old is trying his best to get leaner and fitter so that he remains injury-free in the future.

He is being put through the paces by the physios and the NCA and is working hard to shed some extra kilos. As far as his injured hamstring is concerned, Rohit is undergoing rehab and is taking proper care of it by not putting any kind of unnecessary strain.

“Unless the physio gives a clean chit, a player can’t undergo a high-intensity fitness test. But if he is undergoing rehab on an injury in his lower body, he can work on his upper body’s conditioning and shed weight. A lighter upper body will ensure he doesn’t put much strain on the dodgy hamstring,” a BCCI source said as quoted by Times of India.

“Rohit doesn’t want to take any chance this time. He is very conscious about the fitness standards. He has been plagued by injuries in the last year. Then the lockdown happened before he got on with his IPL duties. He has been on the road for two years too. That didn’t give him much of a chance to work on his fitness. Now, he wants to ensure he is in perfect shape and his body is ready to endure the rigours of non-stop cricket next year”, the source added.

Meanwhile, in his recent post on Instagram, Rohit looked fitter and happy with his rehabilitation at the NCA. Along with him, Ishant Sharma to is recovering from the injury that he picked in IPL 2020. With Virat Kohli missing the last 3 Tests, Indians fans will be wishing that both Rohit and Ishant heal in time and play the last 2 Tests against Australia.
