The limited overs cricket is played so much more these days than before, and you see that with the kind of players that are playing the game. There are two kinds of opening batsmen these days, ones who look to counter-attack on the lookout for taking advantage of the powerplay and the others who look to hang in there batting deep anchoring the whole innings.

A very rare breed of players are able to do the both, take the game away from the opponent and bat deep enough to make a telling impact on the outcome of the match, That”s what Sanath Jayasuriya was in his prime.

He would come out opening the innings for Srilanka and lead an assault on bowlers exactly at the time they would be looking to settle in and find some rhythm. Sanath would come out and make a mockery of opposition”s plans and the whole rhythm of the bowlers on the day.

What uses to make things even tougher for the opposition”s while up against Sanath was his range as a batsman which was complete he was fantastic on the off side and brilliant through the leg.

Sanath has been involved with Srilankan Cricket setup even after retiring from the game in various capacities as well.

And so the recent sight of him having to walk only through crutches raised concerns about his current health. It was saddening to see one of the greatest having to endure such a condition.
