It was an exciting day play on the first day’s play at Newlands, Cape Town between India and South Africa. South African captain Faf du Plessis won the toss, elected to bat first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 early wickets but captain du Plessis and de Villiers looked in aggressive touch.

Hardik Pandya dismissed South African captain du Plessis to leave South Africa at 142 for 5. South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock and Philander added 60 runs for the 6th wicket. Quinton was dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 43. India picked one more wicket of Philander to end the second session at 230 for 7.

In the third session, Keshav Maharaj, Rabada, Steyn added important runs to push the South African total to 286. Murali Vijay and Shikhar added 16 runs for the first wicket. Both openers went in quick succession. Morne Morkel got the big wicket of Indian captain Virat Kohli. Team India ended the first day on 28 for 3.

Morne Morkel, Steyn, Philander picked one wicket each for South Africa.
