India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson recently underwent surgery on his finger after sustaining an injury during the fifth T20I against England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on February 2. The injury occurred when Jofra Archer’s fast delivery struck him on the index finger, causing bleeding.
Despite receiving treatment from the physio, Samson continued batting but was dismissed in the following over while attempting a big shot. He did not take the field in the second innings, with Dhruv Jurel taking over wicketkeeping duties.
With IPL 2025 just a month away, Samson now faces a race against time to regain fitness, as he is set to lead the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the tournament. RR shared a picture of Sanju Samson on their official Instagram handle after his surgery, extending their best wishes for a swift recovery. Their post was captioned:

“Just a Technical Flaw”- Ambati Rayudu on Samson’s Short-Ball Woes
Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu recently examined Sanju Samson’s difficulties against short-pitched deliveries during the T20I series against England. He suggested that the problem was not mental but purely technical. Sharing his thoughts on Star Sports, Rayudu stated:
“I don’t think there is any problem with Sanju’s mindset. It’s just a technical flaw because he is trying to make room. When you make room and your back leg goes towards the leg stump, your arms don’t open up when you try to play the pull.”
He further continued:
“When you do that movement and play the pull, the chances of you getting late are great because the ball is also following you. I feel he can come inside the line and use the pace. Sanju plays the short ball very well otherwise. I feel it’s the angle and not the short ball that’s troubling him.”
