in a strange sequence of events, young Saurashtra cricketer Avi Barot died of heart attack at the age of just 29. The state cricket board is in shock over the incident and is yet to come to terms with it. Apart from playing domestic cricket for Saurashtra, Barot also played for Haryana and Gujarat in his career.

“Everyone at the Saurashtra Cricket Association is deeply saddened about his shocking, untimely and extremely sad demise. Avi was an exceptional and remarkable cricketer. Everyone in the SCA conveys their heartfelt condolences to Barot’s family members. We pray to the almighty to grant eternal peace to his noble soul and to give enough strength to Avi’s family, friends and all dear ones to bear this unbearable loss,” the SCA said in a statement on Saturday.

Barot played 38 first-class matches, 38 List A matches and 20 Domestic T20 games. He was a wicket-keeper-batsman and scored 1,547 runs in first-class matches, 1030 runs in list-A games and 717 runs in T20s.

Earlier this year in January, he smashed 122 in just 53 balls during a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Goa.

The SCA President Jaydev Shah mourned Barot’s demise at such young age. He spoke very highly of the man and his achievements in the game of cricket.

“It is absolutely shocking and painful to learn about Avi’s sad demise. He was a great teammate and had fine cricketing skills. He had recently performed well in domestic cricket. He was a friendly and noble human being. All of us at SCA are in a deep state of shock after receiving this news.” Shah said.

Barot was a part of the Ranji Trophy-winning Saurashtra team, which had defeated Bengal in the final.
