Gujarat Titans’ Shahrukh Khan made headlines with his maiden IPL fifty against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 28th April 2024. However, GT posted 200 for 3 after RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and decided to field first. Swapnil Singh and Glenn Maxwell got two early wickets that put GT batters under immense pressure.
Shahrukh Khan was promoted to number 4. He looked in good touch putting the RCB bowlers under immense pressure, especially against spinners. He kept the momentum going for GT playing with intent not allowing the RCB bowlers to settle. Shahrukh Khan maintained the momentum for GT with singles and hitting boundaries at will.
He completed his maiden IPL fifty off just 24 balls which revived GT innings. Mohammed Siraj bowled a beauty to dismiss Shahrukh Khan to end an 86-run partnership for the 3rd wicket with Sai Sudharsan.
Shahrukh Khan was bought by the GT franchise for Rs 7.40 Crore for this year’s edition. He did not play the first few matches before he was played lower down the order. Shahrukh showed intent right from the word go and maintained the pressure on RCB bowlers. His innings comprised 3 fours and 5 sixes. It was a well-compiled knock by Shahrukh Khan after losing 2 early wickets to Saha and Gill.
Shahrukh Khan made the batting look easy with some clean hitting against the spinners and pacers that put some pressure on RCB bowling. He was bought by the Punjab Kings franchise in 2021 and played till 2023. Punjab Kings released him before the IPL 2024 auction.
He played with a fearless attitude that kept RCB bowlers under immense pressure. During the last edition of IPL, he made 156 runs from 14 matches with the best score of 41 at a strike rate of 165.96.
Shahrukh did not get many chances at the top of the order for Punjab Kings. He eventually got a chance and grabbed it with both hands.
