Shane Warne Picks His Australian Playing XI For The Pink Ball Test

Former Australia Leg Spinner Shane Warne recently picked his playing XI for the Australian side for the first test against India at the Adelaide Oval. The test is going to be a day-night affair played with the pink ball which will also be Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s last match of the tour as he’s all set to fly back to India as he’s expecting his first child with wife Anushka Sharma.

Shane Warne named the Australian playing eleven for the initial Test against India at the Adelaide Oval, beginning December 17. Opening batsman David Warner has been ruled out of the first test after sustaining an injury during the ODI series whereas young upcoming batter Will Pucovski might also be ruled out after suffering a blow on the head off the bowling of Indian pacer Umesh Yadav during the warm match.

The former Aussie Legend picked a well-balanced playing XI with Travis Head, Steve Smith, Marnus Labushcagne and either one of Matthew Wade and Cameron Green in the middle order whereas for the opening spot Warne picked Joe Burns and choice of either one between Will Pucovski and Marcus Harris. In the bowling department, Warne went with the trio of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins with Nathan Lyon as the lone spin-bowling option.

While picking the playing XI, Shane Warne said he’d pick Cameron Green only if the conditions are suitable for the player to play. Otherwise, he’d just go with Matthew Wade in the middle order if Cameron Green isn’t going to bowl.

“I’d love to get Cameron Green in the side but I reckon I’d have a look at the pitch first,” Warne was quoted as saying Fox Sports.

“If they feel like they want a few extra overs with the pink ball then I’d get Green in. He’s in such good form, I’d like to see him play but if not then I’d like to see him debut when it’s a bit easier than under lights with the pink ball and I’d pick Matthew Wade,” he added.

Shane Warne’s Australia XI:

Will Pucovski/Marcus Harris, Joe Burns,  Tim Paine (c/wk), Joe Burns, Pat Cummins (vc), Matthew Wade/Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head (vc), Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc.
