Former Australian spin legend Shane Warne has recently chosen his top five test batsmen during a commentary stint in the Ashes. Australia won the first Test by nine wickets as they humbled the visitors at The Gabba. The next Test match starts in Adelaide on December 16.

Talking to Fox Cricket, Shane Warne named his top five Test batters from the modern era. He included names like Steve Smith, Joe Root, Kane Williamson and picked only one Indian batsman in Virat Kohli.

“I’ve got Steve Smith. In all conditions and against all bowling attacking across all times, Smith is outstanding” Warne started saying.

Warne named England and New Zealand captain Joe Root and Kane Williamson as the second and third players on the list.

“Joe Root is number two. He has made 6 hundreds in this calendar year. Kane Williamson is always in thereabouts,” he said.

He said Virat Kohli’s form has tapered off a little bit in recent times. Kohli last scored a Test hundred back in 2019 and since then has not scored a century in two years. He already has 70 stories to his name and his fans are eagerly waiting for his elusive 71st ton.

Warne picked Marnus Labuschange as his fifth player. He has scored 371 runs this year at an average of over 70 in just three Test matches.

The Aussies hammered the English side by nine wickets in the first Test. England’s batting collapsed in the first innings as they were bowled out for 147. In the second innings as well, the batting once again collapsed after the 162-run stand between Malan and Root.

The Aussies were given a target pot just 20 runs in their second inning which they chased down in a canter and won the game by nine wickets.
