Shardul Thakur reveals why he chose the No 10 jersey

The master blaster of Indian Cricket has retired four years back, but once again his memories came back on the cricket field courtesy a player in the fourth ODI against the Sri Lankans.  Shardul Thakur who made in ODI debut in the penultimate match against Sri Lanka wore the No 10 jersey which was once donned by the legend.

Shardul Thakur became the 218th player to grace the field for India in the fifty over the format of the game. He came into news right after the Indian team came on to the field to defend the score. He along with BCCI received much criticism from the fans the legend for the choosing the No 10 jersey which was associated with the little master till the day he retired.

However, in a post-match chat with Murali Karthik, the debutant revealed the reasons for choosing this number. “My birth date’s sum total is 10 which is why I chose the number for my jersey as well.”  Shardul Thakur was born on 16th October 1991, and interesting if you add the digits (16+10+1991) it comes to a total of 10. Surprisingly, during the match commentator, Harsha Bhogle also pointed out an interesting fact that both the player shared the same initials as ‘ST’. Even, both of the players hail from Mumbai.

Shardul Thakur received his India cap from a former Mumbai and India cricketer and now the head coach of the Virat Kohli & Co, Ravi Shastri.

The Mumbai born cricketer put on a fair show in the first match of his international career as he was he impressive with the new ball when he dismissed Niroshan Dickwella in his second over. He was also able to generate pace and swing otherwise from a batting Colombo wicket. He ended with a single wicket from 7 over’s giving away only 26 runs.
