Punjab Kings (PBKS) batter Shashank Singh recently addressed a viral moment from Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025, where he was run out in a seemingly casual manner during a crucial clash against Mumbai Indians (MI). In a candid revelation, the 33-year-old admitted he deserved a reprimand for his mistake, even joking that captain Shreyas Iyer “should have slapped” him.
Iyer’s visible frustration during the incident had sparked conversation among fans, even though PBKS eventually secured a five-wicket win. Shashank expressed deep regret over his lapse in focus and acknowledged the importance of maintaining composure in high-pressure situations.
Praise for Shreyas Iyer and a Dinner Gesture
Despite the mishap, Shashank shared his appreciation for Shreyas Iyer’s leadership and sportsmanship. He revealed that Iyer invited him to dinner after the match, a gesture that helped him regain confidence. Singh commended Iyer’s growth as a T20 captain, particularly his role in transforming Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) into title contenders.
Under Iyer’s captaincy, KKR reached consecutive IPL finals and lifted the trophy in 2024, ending a decade-long title drought. Shashank, who hails from Mumbai like Iyer, praised the skipper’s calm demeanor and strategic mindset, which have made him one of the standout leaders in the tournament.
Final Over Heroics Fall Just Short in IPL 2025 Final
In the IPL 2025 final, Shashank Singh found himself in another high-pressure scenario. PBKS required 31 runs off the last over against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Singh almost pulled off the impossible. Facing seasoned pacer Josh Hazlewood, he admitted to being caught off-guard by a full toss delivery.
Despite his valiant effort, scoring 24 runs in the final over, PBKS fell short by six runs. Nevertheless, Shashank’s performance throughout the season was commendable. He amassed 341 runs at an impressive strike rate of 153, finishing as PBKS’s second-highest run-scorer. His consistency and determination were vital to the team’s deep run in the tournament, solidifying his place as a key contributor in their campaign.
