Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag believes having both Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh in the playing XI will make India a powerhouse in Test cricket. Incidentally, Shaw and Pant have been turning heads with their attacking brand of cricket.

Pant has already showcased his capabilities in Test cricket, having delivered quite a few match-winning knocks for the Indian team in the last couple of years. Prithvi Shaw, on the other hand, had a promising start to his red-ball career but his weakness against swing balls saw him getting dropped.

Speaking on Sports18, Virender Sehwag stated that having Rishabh Pant and Prithvi in the same team can help India win the ICC World Test Championship. The cricketer-turned-commentator said:

“He (Prithvi Shaw) is a player who can bring back the excitement in Test cricket. The opposition will have to think if 400 would be enough with Shaw and Pant in our ranks. Shaw and Pant in one team could help India rule Test cricket, win World Test Championship.”

“If he opens, he will be far more successful” – Virender Sehwag on Rishabh Pant

Adding further, the former India opener feels if Rishabh Pant will be far more successful in the limited-overs format if he opens the innings. Incidentally, Pant has played as an opening batter for India’s Under-19 team back in the 2016 World Cup.

“We don’t play limited-overs to score 50 or 100 but to score at a brisk pace, no matter the situation or the opposition. At no. 4 or 5, he will find himself in situations that demand greater responsibility, but if he opens, he will be far more successful,” Virender Sehwag concluded.
