Shikhar Dhawan Backs Suryakumar Yadav To Succeed In Test Matches

Indian experienced batter Shikhar Dhawan has shown faith in Suryakumar Yadav to be a success in red ball cricket. He was given a chance during the opening Test match against Australia at Nagpur but did not open his account.

Suryakumar Yadav was included in the playing XI for the first Test match with good performances in T20I form and the Ranji Trophy matches for Mumbai. Dhawan said that SKY would improve and learn from his mistakes.

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the first Test match due to a back injury, but Surya Kumar Yadav did not grab his chance with both hands. He looked out of sorts and struggled being bowled by Nathan Lyon on a pitch that helped the spinners a lot.

In an interview with Aaj Tak, Dhawan said “Suryakumar Yadav has performed well. He has consistently performed in the last couple of years. (He hasn’t done well) in a couple of series, which is very natural.

If we talk about the Test match, the wickets are very different in a Test; that is the biggest challenge. When we played in India, there were turning tracks prepared because India had to win games. Things are not easy for batters, no matter how big he is.”

Suryakumar Yadav had a terrible One-day international series against Australia being dismissed for three successive ducks.

The Indian Cricket Team retained the Border Gavaskar Series against Australia by 2-1. Men in Blue won the first two Test matches comprehensively. India registered emphatic innings and 132 runs at Nagpur before thrashing the Aussies in the 2nd Test at New Delhi by six wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the series.

The pitch at Holkar Stadium, Indore had a lot of turn for the spinners right from word go. India looked out of sorts being bowled out for 109 in the first innings and then skittled out for 163 in 2nd innings. Under the captaincy of Steve Smith, Australia won the third Test match by 9 wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan lost his place in the Indian squad

Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped from the One-day international squad due to poor form in a couple of series while Shubman Gill made good use of the chances with both hands.

Dhawan would be looking to continue his brilliant form in the upcoming IPL for Punjab Kings. He has registered four single-digit scores in the last five ODI innings before selectors forced him to drop before the home series against Sri Lanka at home this year.
