India and Delhi Capitals opener Shikhar Dhawan announced that he would donate Rs 20 lakh along with all his post-match individual performance awards towards mission oxygen and help the people who require oxygen to battle against the Covid-19.

The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has halted the nation. The country is grappling with the Covid-19 crisis, and the daily count has surpassed the 300,000 daily mark. The death toll is also increasing with the numbers touching an all-time high. But there is a significant shortage of oxygen and beds across the country.

Shikhar Dhawan donates INR 20 lakhs to fight COVID19

A couple of sportsperson – Indians and overseas have joined this battle to fight the deadly virus. India opener Shikhar Dhawan also joined the fight and has donated INR 20 lakhs to buy oxygens. He has also promised to donate all his individual post-match awards in this mission.

Earlier, Aussie pacer Pat Cummins and former legend Brett Lee also donated a certain amount in the wake of the pandemic. KKR batter Sheldon Jackson and Rajasthan Royals pacer Jaydev Unadkat also donated different amounts of money to help the people across the country.

“We are in unprecedented times right now, and it is the need of the hour that we do everything possible to help each other out,” Dhawan said in his statement. “Over the years, I have received incredible love and support from all of you, for which I am eternally grateful. It’s now my turn to give back to the people of this country. I will be donating ₹20 lakhs, plus money from all post-match individual performance awards that I receive from the IPL 2021 towards Mission Oxygen to help fund the requirement of oxygen,” Shikhar Dhawan wrote.

Shikhar Dhawan also thanked the frontline workers for their service and urged everyone to follow the protocols in place to keep themselves safe in these difficult times.

“I would like to thank all the tireless frontline workers for their incredible service. We are forever in your debt,” he wrote. “I also urge everyone to observe all health protocols – wear a mask, sanitize and maintain social distancing. Please step out only when necessary. Together, we will win,” Dhawan concluded.

 

Shikhar Dhawan is currently playing for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southpaw is in brilliant form and is currently the Orange Cap holder.
