Shikhar Dhawan played a matchwinning knock in Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2021 season opener against CSK. He scored 85 off 54 balls and in the process added 138 with Prithvi Shaw. In the process, Dhawan went onto become the third-highest run-getter in IPL. The veteran opener is only behind Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli and CSK legend Suresh Raina. While Raina has 5,422 runs under his belt, run-machine Kohli is the all-time top scorer in the history of IPL with 5,911 runs.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals southpaw overtook Virat Kohli in a special milestone. Shikhar Dhawan became the highest run-getter against Chennai Super Kings in the history of the IPL. He overtook the likes of Kohli, David Warner and Robin Uthappa in the list. Uthappa meanwhile, was roped in by the CSK in the IPL 2021 player auction.

Shikha Dhawan- 910 runs
Virat Kohli- 901

Dhawan, who had also struck a fine 101 in DC’s last encounter versus CSK during IPL 2020, returned as the Man-of-the-Match. He had also accounted for three catches during CSK’s innings. Thus, he had a memorable evening as he also dethroned Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli from the top spot to now have the most runs vs CSK.

At the post-match presentation, Dhawan said, “I really enjoyed my batting. Was enjoying the way I was hitting the ball. Prithvi was batting really well. He carried on with his form from Vijay Hazare. It was important to get off to a good start because we were chasing a big total. I have to innovate a few shots and I enjoy taking up challenges. I was playing the ball close to the body. The wicket was a little sticky. I knew my game plan.”
