Rishabh Pant won his first game as DC captain in match 2 of IPL 2021 beating Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in their season opener. CSK, on the other hand, made a losing start to IPL 2021 after having a disappointing campaign in IPL 2020. It was a high-scoring contest with Delhi Capitals prevailing at the end of it. More about match 3 report in detail below.

Chasing 189 to win, Prithvi Shaw (72) and Shikhar Dhawan(85) gave the Capitals a good start. Both scored half-centuries as they added 138 runs in less than 14 overs. Shaw carried his good domestic form into the IPL, while the experienced Dhawan played according to the condition. Both complemented very well as they decimated the Chennai bowlers. Misfields and drop catches from the Chennai fielders helped them in the process as well.

Rishabh Pant (15) and Marcus Stoinis (14) then completed the formalities as Delhi outplayed Chennai in the contest. None of the CSK bowlers were able to make an impact in the game as the Shaw-Dhawan pair did not allow any bowler to settle down. Dhawan for his fabulous 85 and three good catches in the field was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Earlier in the game, Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won his first toss as captain and elected to field first. Suresh Raina made a resounding comeback for CSK scoring a 36-ball 54 and playing a big part in taking their total score to 188/7. The openers fell cheaply inside the first two overs. That is when Raina took charge and formed key partnerships with Moeen Ali (36) first and then with Rayudu (23) and Ravindra Jadeja (26). CSK scored over 100 runs in the middle phase of their innings.

However, Sam Curran’s cameo (34 off 15) turned out to be the real difference as it provided much impetus to the innings as the side scored over 50 runs in the last five overs. Sam took a special liking to his brother Tom hitting him for 23 runs of his final over.

The bowlers from both teams had a hard time in the field. As many as 15 sixes were hit in the game by batsmen from both teams. However, the dew worked against the CSK bowlers as gripping the ball in the second half became difficult. MS Dhoni also highlighted the same in his post-match chat with Star Sports.
