Team India opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been a major reason behind India’s dominant run in the limited-overs. The duo shares an exemplary understanding which has been the key to their partnership. However, Rohit recently raised a complaint against Dhawan; and now the southpaw has responded.

Recently, during an Instagram Live chat between Rohit Sharma and David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan was a hot topic. Incidentally, both of them has opened with Dhawan at some point in time. During that chat, Rohit pointed out that Dhawan never faces the first ball of a game. To this accusation, Warner also admitted that during his time with the left-hander at Sunrisers Hyderabad, Dhawan would often take a single on the last ball of the over.

A week after all the accusation, Shikhar Dhawan has responded during a chat with former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan. Dhawan shared an anecdote from 2013 where he asked Rohit Sharma to take the strike and since then, the ritual has continued.

“I don’t like taking strike on the first ball. If my partner is a youngster, I will have a word with him and if he’s not comfortable to take strike, I will obviously take it. In 2013, it was my comeback game when Rohit started as the opener, so Rohit took strike as it was a comeback game, so it became a pattern and continued for most of the games,” Dhawan clarified while mentioning the 2013 opening incident as the reason behind this trend.

However, Shikhar Dhawan categorically denied David Warner’s allegations. The cricketer from Delhi mentioned that he has never done such things intentionally.

“David Warner was saying that I take a single on last ball of the over, I disagree to that,” Dhawan signed off.
