Team India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 will be selected in a few days. The turnament will be played in the West Indies and the USA. The main debate for selection would be between Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya depending upon the form in IPL 2024.
Shivam Dube has been in excellent form for Chennai Super Kings during the ongoing Indian Premier League season. He looked great in touch with some lovely knocks that helped CSK to come out of trouble and register victories. Dube has scored 245 runs from 7 matches (7 innings) with 2 half-centuries to his name including the best score of 66 not out against Mumbai Indians. He has played with a strike rate of 157.05 which has provided the impetus for CSK.
After being named as the captain of the Mumbai Indians side for this season, he has looked ordinary with both bat and ball. His best score in IPL 2024 has been 39. Hardik Pandya did not lead from the front. His speeds dropped which has led Mumbai Indians to lose matches which made life tough for 5-time champion MI.
Shivam Dube has been in sublime form for CSK
Shivam Dube has created a major impact on the batting with explosive hits against the spinners and made sure that CSK made big scores putting enough pressure on bowlers. On the other hand, Hardik has not helped Mumbai Indians lead from the front.
According to a few experts like Simon Doull, “The way he (Dube) is batting, He is outperforming Hardik with the bat by a long way. From what I understand, he’s bowling a lot on the nets. From an Indian selection point of view, you can’t ask any of these teams to do something that doesn’t help them win the tournament,” Doull said.
Mumbai Indians suffered another disappointing 9-wicket loss to Rajasthan Royals in match number 38 at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur. He was dismissed without opening his account. Hardik Pandya opened the bowling and looked out of sorts. While Shivam Dube would be an ideal pick for the T20 World Cup 2024 depending on his ability to hit big sixes, Hardik Pandya has struggled badly with both and bat so far in this tournament.
Despite Dube not bowling, his form would be favourable to select him in the squad for the prestigious T20 World Cup 2024. And, it will be interesting to see who can seal the deal at the end.
