Team India cricketer Shreyas Iyer reveals that he has been longing to bowl, however, he has been advised against by strength and conditioning coaches. He was struggling with a recurring back injury for a few months, which kept him out of the game. Due to the recurring issue, he has been advised to refrain from bowling.

Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery earlier this year to treat the injury. He has made a successful comeback since then to the Indian team. He was part of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and also in the last two T20Is in the recent series against Australia. Following India’s win in the fifth T20I, Shreyas Iyer revealed why he has not been bowling. The Indian cricketer said,

“I have been longing to bowl, but the strength and conditioning coaches, they are right ‘Now you are not going to bowl for some time’. That’s the sad part of it.”

Wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on: Shreyas Iyer on his fifty against Australia in the fifth T20I

Shreyas Iyer slammed a fifty in the fifth T20I against Australia on Sunday, December 3 in Bengaluru. His valuable knock helped India set a target of 161, eventually winning by six runs. The Indian batter expressed that he wanted to accelerate, but as wickets kept falling, he took a calculative approach while batting.

“My mindset was to go boom boom, but when I saw three wickets falling, my mind started calculating. It wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on. I feel 160 was the right total, which we got eventually. To defend it was a brilliant performance from the team.” said Shreyas Iyer.

“I’m elated, to be honest, to see everyone chipping in and contributing to the team. The shots, innovation has been on point and I could see Arshdeep’s [Singh] calmness when he was bowling the last over,” he added.
