India’s ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has reportedly received a clean bill of health from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), clearing him for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand, beginning January 11 in Vadodara. The Mumbai batter had sustained a spleen laceration during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney in late October 2025.
Although he was included in India’s 15-member squad for the New Zealand series, announced on January 3, his participation depended on medical clearance. Iyer made a successful comeback to competitive cricket on January 6, captaining Mumbai in a Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 encounter against Himachal Pradesh.
He starred with a quick 82 off 53 balls, featuring 10 fours and three sixes, helping Mumbai edge out a seven-run win. According to a Jagran News report on January 7, the CoE has cleared Shreyas Iyer to participate in the ODI series. The report also stated that CoE chief VVS Laxman notified India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar via email about Iyer’s successful rehabilitation.
Following the series opener in Vadodara, the remaining ODIs are scheduled for Rajkot on January 14 and Indore on January 18.
