Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has returned to training as he prepares for his comeback. The right-hander had sustained a rib cage injury during last month’s three-match ODI series against Australia. He suffered a spleen laceration while attempting a diving catch in the third ODI and was immediately taken to the hospital for scans.
Reports indicated the injury was potentially life-threatening, leading to his admission to the ICU in Sydney. To the relief of his supporters, Iyer has now begun training again and recently shared an Instagram story showcasing his workout session.
India went down 1-2 in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Shreyas Iyer managed only 11 off 24 balls in the opening game but bounced back with a solid half-century, scoring 61 from 77 deliveries in the second match.
He did not get a chance to bat in the final ODI, where India secured a consolation victory by chasing a 237-run target with nine wickets to spare. Rohit Sharma (121* off 125) and Virat Kohli (74* off 81) led the batting effort in that encounter.
Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of India’s ODI series against South Africa
Shreyas Iyer is likely to remain sidelined for a few months and will miss India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. ODI captain Shubman Gill is also unavailable due to a neck injury. With both leaders ruled out, the selectors have named senior batter KL Rahul as the stand-in captain for the series.
The ODIs will begin on Sunday, November 30, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. The next two matches are scheduled for December 3 in Raipur at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, and December 6 in Visakhapatnam at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
After the ODI leg, India and South Africa will play a five-match T20I series starting December 9 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
