Team India batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia, due to the recurrence of a lower-back injury. Team India’s fielding coach T Dilip confirmed the news ahead of the first ODI game. The three-match series begins on Friday, March 17 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Shreyas Iyer’s career has been hit by injuries of late. He was out of action for several weeks, and also missed the first test of the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy series. The right-handed batter made a comeback in the second test of the series. However, in injury recurred again during the fourth Test match. He did not take the field for Team India after the end of the third day’s play.

Team India’s fielding coach, T Dilip confirmed that Shreyas Iyer will not take part in the three-match ODI series against Australia. He said to the media at the press conference, as quoted by PTI,

“Injuries are a part and parcel of the game. We have the best medical facilities and they are well-equipped… We are in coordination (with NCA). Shreyas ruled out of this series. (We will be able to provide) further, update as and when we know.”

Shreyas Iyer’s doubtful to get fit before IPL 2023

Shreyas Iyer getting ruled out of the ODI series against Australia has put his participation in the Indian Premier League 2023 season in jeopardy. He is back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation. It is unclear when Shreyas Iyer will return to action. He is being monitored by the NCA team.

The right-handed batter is likely to miss the first half of the 2023 Indian Premier League season. He is the designated skipper of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in the tournament. His absence will be a huge blow for the two-time Indian Premier League champions.
