Shubman Gill Enters Top 10 In ICC Rankings After 2nd ENG vs IND Test
Shubman Gill

India captain Shubman Gill made a significant leap in the latest ICC Test rankings, soaring 15 places to break into the top 10 batters, now sitting at No. 6. His rise follows a stellar performance in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Gill, 25, kicked off the England tour with a commanding century in the opening Test at Leeds, despite India’s five-wicket defeat.

However, it was in the second Test that he truly lit up the series, producing a sensational 269 in the first innings and following it up with 161 in the second. His heroics powered India to a dominant 336-run victory. Shubman Gill’s 269 set records for the highest Test score by an Indian in England and by an Indian captain in history.

His match tally of 430 runs is now the second-highest ever in Test cricket, trailing only Graham Gooch’s legendary 456 in 1990. Harry Brook replaces Joe Root as the No. 1 Test batter in ICC rankings. Root struggled at Edgbaston with just 28 runs, while Brook shone with a 158. They top the rankings, followed by Williamson, Jaiswal, and Smith.

Indian Players Hold Strong In ICC Test Bowling And All-Rounder Standings

Despite missing the second Test at Edgbaston, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the ICC Test bowler rankings. The 31-year-old made an early impact in the series with a five-wicket haul in the first innings at Leeds before being rested for the second Test as part of workload management.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also retained his No. 1 spot in the Test all-rounder rankings following a strong performance at Edgbaston. He contributed a vital 89 in the first innings and followed it up with an unbeaten 69 in the second. With the ball, Jadeja chipped in with 1/40 in 17 overs during England’s second innings as India sealed a convincing win.

In other news, South Africa’s stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder surged 12 places to No. 3 in the Test all-rounder rankings after a standout performance against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Mulder smashed an unbeaten 367 off 334 balls, the highest Test score by a South African, and also claimed three wickets, leading his side to an innings victory and a 2-0 series sweep.
