Shubman Gill registered his maiden Test century against Bangladesh in the ongoing game played at Zahur Chaudhary Stadium, Chattorgam on 16 December 2022.

Gill looked impressive with solid defensive technique and hit the bad deliveries away for boundaries. He and KL Rahul ensured that India went into the lunch break at 36 for 0. After the interval, Gill showed his class with attacking shots keeping the momentum going.

The explosive opener from Punjab, Gill completed his fifty off 84 balls and looked composed with his shots. He attacked the Bangladesh bowlers taking on the short deliveries. After KL Rahul was dismissed again, Shubman Gill kept hitting shots and hit the gap brilliantly. India went into the tea break at 140 for 1 as Gill remained not out on 80.

Gill looked in great touch taking on the Bangladesh bowlers and completed his maiden Test century off 147 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 110 off 152 balls with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes. Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara added 113 runs for the 2nd wicket to put India in a commanding position.

He struggled initially in the one-off Test match against England failing to contribute to both innings. Before his century today, Gill made a sensational 91 in the fourth innings of the fourth Test against a top-quality Australian attack comprising Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon.

Shubman Gill in dazzling form in 2022

Shubman Gill has been in great form during 2022 scoring his maiden ODI century against West Indies during the third ODI at Port of Spain, Trinidad. His form in the recent past has been brilliant with a match-winning century against Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy quarter-finals this year.

Before this match, Gill made 579 runs from 11 matches (21 innings) with 4 half-centuries to his name. His ability to hit the shot ball makes him a special batter to watch. He would look for making his form count in the second Test match to be played from 22nd December at Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
