The first Test match between India and Bangladesh began played at the Zahur Chaudhary Stadium, Chattorgam on 14 December 2022. Indian stand-in captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill began the innings on a positive note against disciplined Bangladesh bowling.

After the fall of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul looked bogged down. He tried to force the game taking an inside edge onto the stumps by Khaled Ahmed in the 19th over to leave India in some trouble.

KL Rahul looked in decent touch putting some pressure on Bangladesh bowlers. He made 22 off 54 balls with 3 boundaries. The Karnataka-born player was named the captain of the Test team after Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the first Test match due to a thumb injury.

He was the stand-in captain during the 3rd One-day international match where the Indian team won the match by a massive 227 runs. Rishabh Pant put pressure on Bangladesh’s bowling with aggressive shots along with Pujara. Soon after, Pant was dismissed after lunch and bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Team India Test

Pujara and Shreyas Iyer steadied the ship for India putting on unbeaten 62 runs for the 5th wicket before the tea break. India moved to 174 for 4.

KL Rahul would be disappointed with the shot on a good batting pitch at Chattorgam. Under his captaincy, the Indian team would look to win Test matches and gain a step ahead of the ICC Test Championship finals to be played in 2023.

Rahul was named as the captain for 2 Test matches on the tour of South Africa and then appointed as the captain for the ODI series. The stand-in captain would be hoping for a decent performance in the 2nd innings and gain confidence before 2nd Test match to be played at Dhaka, Mirpur from 22nd December. It has been a decent recovery for Team India after the loss of Pant’s wicket. Pujara and Pant added 64 runs for the 4th wicket.
