India won the 3-match ODI series against Sri Lanka by defeating the neighbors in two back-to-back matches. Notably, India clinched a victory in thriller 2nd ODI encounter to win the series against Sri Lanka. Shikhar Dhawan led side will be looking forward to whitewashing Sri Lanka by winning the 3rd and Final ODI. However former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has suggested team India make few changes in the final ODI at Colombo.

While discussing Sri Lanka vs India ODI in his YouTube podcast ‘Deep Point’ former Indian keeper suggested some changes. Deep Dasgupta believes management should include young RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal in the 3rd ODI. Deep Dasgupta elaborated:

“India should make a couple of changes now that they have won the series. Youngsters can get some taste of international cricket with three T20Is to follow. Coming to the changes, it might look a little out of the box but Shikhar Dhawan can be rested for Devdutt Padikkal.

“The management will get an idea of Padikkal’s caliber at this level and what he can offer. Dhawan has looked in good rhythm in the last two games and he can take a break and come back in the T20Is again.”

Notably, Devdutt Padikkal has been selected in the team for his consistent performances in the domestic cricket scene. Devdutt had a good run for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. Also, Padikkal was the second-highest run-scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy just behind Prithvi Shaw.

Former Indian wicketkeeper believes Rahul Chahar should be picked in the squad to replace Yuzvendra Chahal. Notably, Rahul Chahar was in very good form in IPL. Also, Chahar was part of India vs England series where he did an amazing job. Deep Dasgupta said:

“Second change according to me, could be Yuzvendra Chahal because Rahul Chahar is sitting outside, who had bowled well in the last series. Maybe he can get a game ahead of the T20Is so India will have their options ready,”

“Sakariya can wait for the T20Is but Navdeep Saini should get a game” – Deep Dasgupta

The 44-year-old suggests that India should include Navdeep Saini as he has been part of the India team in all the formats. Deep Dasgupta asserted:

“You have someone like Navdeep Saini who’s warming the bench. (Chetan) Sakariya is also sitting outside. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar have bowled well and management can rest both of them or either of them just to try out Navdeep Saini.

“Saini has been in the fringes of the main team across all the formats, so he can get some game time. Sakariya can wait for the T20Is but Navdeep Saini in particular should get a game,”

Cricketer-turned-commentator believes that star Mumbai Indians batsman Suryakumar Yadav should continue. Deep feels that Suryakumar has got the form and rhythm and he shouldn’t rest.

“I want Surya to continue with the form he is in. He has come into the team fresh and I don’t think he should rest. Same with Manish Pandey., he is getting into form, so I don’t want him to rest as well,” Dasgupta added.
