India’s tour of Sri Lanka was postponed after all-rounder Krunal Pandya contracted the COVID-19 virus. The reports of Krunal Pandya getting tested positive came on the second T20I match day.  Reportedly Krunal Pandya was having a sore throat and after getting tested he was found positive. Soon he was sent in isolation and was shifted to another hotel.

Meanwhile, it was found that a total of 8 players were in close contact with Krunal. So all the 8 players were sent in self-isolation by BCCI.

“The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward (sic) by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said via a press release.

“Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts,” said the BCCI release.

The cricketers who were in close contact with Krunal were tested instantly. However, luckily all the players were found Covid-19 negative. Still, the players will have to complete the isolation and they will miss the remaining matches of the series.

The players who are under self-isolation are, Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Deepak Chahar, K Gowtham, Ishan Kishan, and Yuzvendra Chahal.  Notably out of the above-mentioned players, 7 are the first choice players of India.

The absence of these players will definitely be a big concern for the team. The management will be forced to hand over the debut caps to the several cricketers in Sri Lanka.

Reportedly net bowlers, Ishan Porel, Sandeep Warrier, Arshdeep Singh, Sai Kishore, Simarjeet Singh also have been included in India’s main squad for the remaining games.
