The 3rd ODI match of India’s tour of Sri Lanka finally began on Friday, July 23 at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. India won the second ODI against the neighbors in a thrilling encounter. Sri Lanka gave a tough competition to Shikhar Dhawan’s led side but eventually lost the game by 3 wickets. Meanwhile, after losing back-to-back toss Shikhar Dhawan finally won the toss and decided to bat first in 3rd ODI. However, the match was stopped after 23 overs due to rain in Colombo.
India was expected to make changes in playing XI in the dead rubber encounter and the same thing happened. India made as many as 6 changes in the playing XI. Adding to it 5 new faces got national caps in the 3rd ODI encounter against Sri Lanka. Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, Krishnappa Gowtham, Rahul Chahar made their debut. Also, Navdeep Saini was brought back into the squad in the final encounter.

While batting first Indian openers failed to provide a good start to the team. Captain Shikhar Dhawan got dismissed at the score of just 13 in 11 balls. Chameera delivered a very good delivery and Bhanuka didn’t do any mistake and grabbed the catch. However, Prithvi Shaw played an exceptional knock but was dismissed just one run before his fifty.
Also, debutant Sanju Samson got an opportunity to bat at no.3 and he batted brilliantly. Sanju scored a brilliant 46 before giving away his wicket to Jayawickrama. Meanwhile, after that Manish Pandey (10) and Suryakumar Yadav (22) were batting together before the rain stopped the play.
Twitter was quite evidently disappointed after rain played a spoilsport. Here are some reactions:
