India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill looked back on a pivotal 2025, thanking the year for its lessons, experiences and lasting memories while setting his sights on 2026.

“2025, you were truly special to me. So many lessons, experiences, and memories to be grateful for. Carrying it all forward into 2026,” Gill wrote while sharing a reel on his official Instagram handle.

What Did Shubman Gill Achieve In 2025?

The 26-year-old experienced a year of sharp contrasts in 2025. On the downside, Shubman Gill endured a difficult phase in the shortest format. Despite previously being India’s T20I vice-captain, a string of underwhelming performances led to his omission from the T20I side. He was subsequently left out of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup, marking a significant setback.

In the format, Gill scored 291 runs across 15 innings, averaging a little over 24, without registering a single half-century. However, his fortunes in Test cricket painted a completely different picture. Gill enjoyed a remarkable year in the longest format, producing one of the most commanding overseas batting displays by an Indian during the England tour.

He piled up 754 runs in five Tests at an outstanding average of 75.40, smashing four centuries, including a career-best 269. His exploits saw him rewrite record books, with achievements substantial enough to define an era. Across the year, Gill amassed 983 runs in nine Tests at an average of 70.21, scoring five hundreds and one fifty.

He was equally impressive in ODIs, compiling 490 runs in 11 matches at an average of 49.00, with two centuries and two half-centuries. His appointment as India’s Test and ODI captain added further significance to the year, as he guided the team to a gritty 2-2 draw in England, widely regarded as one of the finest Test series in recent memory.

Gill also began the year on a strong note in ODIs, delivering consistent performances in bilateral series and playing a key role in India’s ICC Champions Trophy triumph. He contributed 188 runs to the campaign, highlighted by a century against Bangladesh.
