Arjun Tendulkar, who is representing Goa in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, returned to the spotlight after an unexpected move up the batting order and a strong opinion emerging from the camp of a former India cricketer.

Known more for his left-arm pace than his batting, Arjun was promoted to open the innings in Goa’s match against Mumbai, a move that appeared more experimental than part of a clearly defined role this domestic season.

Having started his domestic career with Mumbai before moving to Goa, Arjun was asked to open the batting against his former side. He made 24 runs from 27 balls, hitting five boundaries in a short but assured knock, before being dismissed by Mumbai skipper Shardul Thakur.

The promotion drew attention, as Arjun is not a regular opener and has largely featured as a bowling all-rounder. Discussion around Arjun’s batting gained further traction after former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father, Yograj Singh, made a striking claim about the 25-year-old.

Yograj, who has coached Arjun in the past, suggested that he should place greater emphasis on his batting and even likened his technique to that of his father, Sachin Tendulkar.

“Arjun Tendulkar should focus on batting; he’s a quality batter. He bats like Sachin,” Yograj was quoted as saying during an interaction with sports journalist Ravish Bisht. The remark quickly triggered reactions on social media, with many questioning the comparison given Arjun’s limited exposure and output as a top-order batter in competitive cricket.

Arjun Tendulkar Faces Stiff Competition For Place In LSG XI Ahead Of IPL 2026

Arjun is expected to take part in the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League after Lucknow Super Giants acquired him through a trade that sent Shardul Thakur in the opposite direction. However, earning a place in LSG’s playing XI may not be straightforward.

With the franchise well stocked in both the pace-bowling and all-rounder categories, Arjun could find opportunities limited unless he produces exceptional performances.
