Sourav Ganguly Backs The Youngster, Urges Ajit Agarkar-Led Committee To Select Him For The World Cup

Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of the Indian cricket team, has expressed his strong support for Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s inclusion in the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India on October 5, 2023.

Jaiswal, who recently made headlines by scoring a century on his Test debut against the West Indies, has been hailed as one of the most promising talents in Indian cricket.

Drawing parallels with his own century on his Test debut against England at Lord’s in 1996, Ganguly highlighted the significance of Jaiswal’s achievement. He praised the young batsman’s technique and pointed out the advantage of having a left-handed batsman in the team, which can add a different dimension to the batting lineup.

Ganguly’s endorsement came during his visit to the iconic Eden Gardens stadium, where he also inspected the ongoing renovation work ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023. Confirming the details of the visit, a Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) officer mentioned that Ganguly’s primary purpose was to monitor the progress of the stadium’s upgrades, but he also discussed concerns about its degradation.

The ODI World Cup 2023 is set to commence with the defending champions, England, taking on the runners-up of the previous World Cup, New Zealand, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5, 2023.

The Narendra Modi Stadium will be the venue for two highly anticipated matches during the tournament: England facing Australia on November 4, 2023, and India squaring off against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 15, 2023.

The grand finale of the tournament is scheduled to take place at the same venue on November 19, 2023. It is noteworthy that this will be the first time India hosts the ODI World Cup entirely, adding extra significance to the event for cricket fans across the country.

With Ganguly’s strong recommendation for Yashasvi Jaiswal’s inclusion in the World Cup squad, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee will likely take the former captain’s views into serious consideration.

Jaiswal’s recent performances and potential as a left-handed batsman could prove to be valuable assets for India as they aim to claim the ODI World Cup title on home soil.

As the countdown begins for the highly anticipated tournament, cricket enthusiasts are eagerly looking forward to witnessing exciting clashes between top cricketing nations in what promises to be a thrilling ODI World Cup 2023 hosted by India.
