Sourav Ganguly Denies To Comment On Sanjay Manjrekar’s Sacking From The Commentary Panel

The Corona Virus might have been the centre of attraction of all the news headlines but on Saturday it was the sacking of Sanjay Manjrekar from the commentary panel by BCCI, which was the biggest headlines. Manjrekar is one of the oldest and popular faces of commentary. The former Indian middle-order batsman had disappointed BCCI with his work and was sacked by the BCCI, it is also likely that Manjrekar won’t be a part of the commentary team in the postponed IPL 2020.

As per several media reports, it was also known that the veteran commentator didn’t travel with the commentary team to Dharmshala hence it is being anticipated that he was dropped from the team even before the series started.

He was part of the commentary team for the last three World Cups and almost all ICC  events since bringing down curtains on his career. He is also known to be a controversial figure in the commentary box and it has been more often than he has faced heated moments in the commentary box.

Last year he was involved in several controversies which started in the world cup where he called the Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja a bits and pieces player before the latter shut him down with a sensational performance against New Zealand in the semifinal and then slammed him on Twitter. Later, he was involved in a heated on-air tussle with fellow commentator Harsha Bhogle.

BCCI and Sanjay Manjrekar are yet to react to the situation and when the situation was taken to BCCI President and he was asked about it, the former India skipper straightaway refused to comment on the removal of Sanjay Majrekar from the BCCI/IPL commentary team, according to Mumbai Mirror.

A BCCI official reportedly said that he could return in the commentary box for India’s next series. The official also revealed that he had no idea about the sacking of Manjrekar from the commentary panel.

“Yes, he wasn’t a part of the panel for this series, but it doesn’t mean that during the next series, he won’t be there. I don’t know what exactly was the trigger,” an agency report said quoting the unnamed BCCI official.
