Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly has stepped down as the Director Of ATK Mohun Bagan on Wednesday to avoid a conflict of interest issue. This comes after the RPSG Group, which owns the ISL team Bagan, won the bid Lucknow franchise for IPL 2022. The BCCI President has confirmed the same to various media platforms as well.
The conflict of interest issue on Sourav Ganguly came up after Sanjiv Goenka the owner of Mohun Bagan as well as the as-yet-unnamed Lucknow IPL franchise, told CNBC-TV 18 on Monday that Ganguly was on the verge of stepping down.
“Well, I think he is going to step down from Mohun Bagan completely… I think today,” Goenka told the channel. “I have resigned,” Ganguly told Cricbuzz after the process of his stepping down was initiated.

The conflict of interest rule as per the BCCI constitution states: “When the BCCI, a Member, the IPL or a Franchisee enter into contractual arrangements with entities in which the individual concerned or his/her relative, partner or close associate has an interest.”
“This is to include cases where family members, partners or close associates are in position that may, or may be seen to compromise as individual’s participation, performance and discharge of roles” the rule further states.
Ganguly took over as the BCCI President in 2019 and since then has achieved several achievements with the Pink-Ball Test being one of his most notable achievements.
Ganguly was instrumental behind the BCCI staging two back to back successful IPL’s in the UAE. Chennai Super Kings won the latest edition of the IPL bagging their fourth title.
