The South Africa cricket board has declared a list of 15 mighty players who will form the team that is to participate in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be hosted in Pakistan and Dubai next month. The team was presented by White-Ball head coach Rob Walter, further affirming Temba Bavuma as the ODI skipper. The naming of the squad is a major step in South Africa’s preparations for the highly rated tournament.
It is important to point out that the team consists of 10 players who played in the South African team in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. In the tournament, South Africa had quite a good run in the competition and was able to make it to the semi-finals.
Adding these experienced players to the team will improve the team’s chances in the Champions Trophy. South Africa will be hoping to pull off a surprise in the tournament with a good blend between experience and new faces on the team.

Good news for South Africa is expected to get its reinforcement in pace bowling as Lungi Ngidi is likely to make a comeback into the team. Ngidi has been unavailable since October 2024 because of a groin injury but he is healthy and available to join the national team. His return is also likely to enhance the strength of South Africa’s bowling section and bring the much-needed aggression.
Returning to the team is one of the best pacers the team has produced in recent times Anrich Nortje. Nortje has been inactive since September 2023 due to a stress fracture in his back that kept him out of the 2023 World Cup and South Africa’s matches at home. He has recently come back to the longer version of the game and he is eager to perform in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
