The current generation is blessed to witness the greatness of India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith. Both of them has been a tremendous ambassador of the game taking batting to a whole new level. Meanwhile, the spectrum has found itself into two halves while picking the best among the two. Recently, former India batsman Wasim Jaffer revealed his pick between Smith and Kohli.

Kohli and Smith have been leading the debate making all the good noises with the bat. Both of them have scored consistently on all parts of the globe to lead their country. Virat Kohli currently is the only batsman to average over 50 in all three formats. He already has 70 international hundreds – 43 in ODIs and 27 in Tests. Furthermore, Kohli features in the top 10 if ICC rankings for batsmen in all three formats while hogging the No.1 spot in ODIs.

Smith ahead of Kohli in Tests: Wasim Jaffer

Recently, the domestic stalwart Wasim Jaffer, who announced his retirement earlier this year, picked Virat Kohli over Steve Smith across all formats. However, when it came to picking one in the red-ball cricket, Jaffer favoured the former Aussie skipper.

“I have to give it to Steve Smith for his form since return from suspension,” Jaffer said to Times Now when asked the best batsman in Test cricket.

Moreover, Wasim Jaffer kept Virat Kohli ahead of Rohit Sharma in terms of white-ball cricket. Rohit has been making the right noises with his five-century in the World Cups and consistent scores, but Jaffer feels Kohli is still right at the top.

“In sheer consistency, Kohli edges past Rohit. But Rohit will be ahead in terms of banking on starts and scoring after getting his eye in,” Jaffer added.
