Delhi Capitals have been the perennial underachievers in the India Premier League‘s history. However, under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, the team made it to the playoffs after seven seasons last year. However, they lost to Chennai Super Kings in the semi-finals to bow out of the tournament. This year, former Indian skipper turned commentator, Sunil Gavaskar has backed them to go all the way.

Talking to Sports Tak, the former Indian skipper lauded the Delhi Capitals management for building a strong squad. They have a good mix of Indian and international superstars who can deliver for the franchise this time around. Plus Ricky Ponting as a coach will be an added bonus for the side.

Delhi Capitals can win IPL 2020 – Gavaskar

“There is a very good chance for Delhi Capitals to win IPL 2020,” Sunil Gavaskar told Sports Tak. They have selected very good players and if their batting clicks then they can surely win this time.

They have also selected their overseas players really well and so I feel they have got a great chance this time. This will be their first IPL title if they win and they have got a great chance,” he added.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has praised the Delhi Capitals batting lineup. They have Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and the West Indian Shimron Hetmyer in their ranks.

Gavaskar feels that even two of them click together, Delhi Capitals will end up scoring a big total.

“The kind of batting ability that they have, even if two of their batsmen click, then they have the ability to post big totals. Prithvi Shaw can open the batting and give a good start. Shreyas Iyer can come in at number three and play big shots. Rishabh Pant can bat at No.4 and also can play as a finisher and give more runs to the team. Therefore I believe that there is a potential for them to score loads of runs.” he added.

Delhi Capitals start their IPL 2020 campaign against Kings XI Punjab on September 20 at the Dubai International stadium.
