Rishabh Pant won his first game as Delhi Capitals captain by beating Chennai Super Kings in their IPL 2021 season opener. Pant even hit the winning runs as Delhi chased down the target in less than 19 overs and won the match by seven wickets. While CSK next play against Punjab Kings on April 16 Delhi takes on Rajasthan Royals a day earlier. Meanwhile, Pant’s captaincy impressed former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar who had a few tips for the young skipper as well.

Impressed by Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar had a piece of advice for the youngster. He said that Pant should not allow MS Dhoni to get the better of his emotions.

“It’s going to bring to the table an exciting game for sure. The one thing I would like Rishabh Pant to do when he goes out for the toss is that if there is no social distancing, I just want him to make sure that he doesn’t allow MS Dhoni to put his arms around his shoulders. That sometimes can be a sign of somebody who is saying ‘Listen, you’re a little guy, I’m the big guy’. So that little worry signal he should try and avoid,” said Gavaskar in a chat on Star Sports.

Gavaskar further said that Pant should not be taken aback by the aura of MS Dhoni who is the best skipper in the IPL in terms of strategy.

“On the field, you have to play your best and Pant has to now see that he has his team don’t get overawed by the aura of MSD. They go and play their natural game, aggressive game,” concluded Gavaskar.

Pant became the fifth-youngest IPL captain to lead a franchise. He joined the likes of Steve Smith, Virat Kohli (RCB), Suresh Raina (CSK), and Shreyas Iyer (DC). Thus, he is the fifth-youngest Indian captain in the IPL.
