Sunil Gavaskar Reacts To Virat Kohli’s Retirement Speculations After Poor Performance In Australia
Virat Kohli

Sunil Gavaskar has put an end to the retirement speculation regarding Virat Kohli after the batter’s two consecutive ducks in the Australia ODI series. The ex-batsman said that Kohli’s career would finish on a high note and even expressed that the player would be present in the 2027 World Cup. Gavaskar made these comments at a time when there was a lot of speculation due to Kohli’s two failures in Perth and Adelaide.

Kohli got out without scoring in Perth after he had faced eight balls, then he was leg before wicket by Xavier Bartlett on just four deliveries in Adelaide, which was the first time in his ODI career that he got two consecutive ducks. The dismissals led to doubts among fans and commentators about his future in the 50-over format.

As Kohli was leaving the Adelaide ground, he raised his gloved hand and waved to the spectators, which was a sign that there would be more discussions regarding a possible farewell.

“2027 World Cup on the radar for Virat Kohli”- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, the previous Indian opener, has absolutely eliminated the rumors regarding Virat Kohli’s retirement after the star’s terrible performance in the current ODI series in Australia. Gavaskar said that Kohli would not only be retiring from international cricket in a high way but also be the legend who will play in the 2027 World Cup.
When questioned by Vikrant Gupta on Aaj Tak if the right-hander will play in Sydney, the 76-year-old said: “Surely. You’ll see him 100%. See, Kohli is not that kind of a player. He will not give up. You think he will quit after making 0 and 0. He will go out on a high. Don’t think about him that way, he did that signal, that is nothing. There is Sydney and he will return to India to face South Africa in ODIs. I say there is also the 2027 World Cup on the radar for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma”
India’s two-wicket defeat in Adelaide was the team’s first loss at the venue in 17 years.
