Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced a heavy defeat against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the El-Classico of IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night. With this defeat, MS Dhoni and Co. are now officially out of the playoff race.

With only two league games remaining, several questions are being raised over the future of Dhoni in the IPL. Fans believe that this might be the last time we are seeing MS Dhoni play in a CSK jersey. However, when former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was asked about his views on the same and he replied with the popular phrase “definitely not”.

This phrase was used by the CSK captain in IPL 2020 when he was asked if IPL 2020 would be the last season of Dhoni in the IPL. Gavaskar believes that we would see Dhoni playing for CSK next year too. Gavaskar on star sports said, “Well, I mean, look at the way he has played. He is clearly showing he is very keen, still enthusiastic about the game.”

“On the field, it was quite telling today. He was running from one end to the other end, which means he was keen. He sensed an opportunity when those 2 or 3 early wickets fell. We have seen him doing this very regularly. Which means ‘definitely not’. Yes (he will continue), that is exactly what he said when he was asked about it (in 2020),” Gavaskar added.

You will definitely see me in the yellow jersey, whether this yellow jersey or some other – MS Dhoni

The 40-year-old wicket-keeper batter was handed over the CSK captaincy once again midway through IPL 2022 after Ravindra Jadeja resigned from CSK Captaincy. Jadeja wanted to concentrate on his batting and bowling. When MS Dhoni was asked about his future with CSK, he gave an interesting reply to this question at the toss, the four-time IPL winning captain MS Dhoni said

“You will definitely see me in the yellow jersey [next year], whether this yellow jersey or some other yellow jersey, that’s a different thing.” This reply from Dhoni surely raised the  hope for CSK fans.
