The ICC announced nominations for the ICC Men’s T20 cricketer for the year 2022. Suryakumar Yadav, Mohammed Rizwan, Sam Curran, and Sikander Raza are the four top players included in the awards list.

Mohammed Rizwan also had a stellar year in the T20I format for Pakistan. He made 996 runs from 25 matches (25 innings) with 10 half-centuries to his name. Rizwan did not have a great T20 World Cup 2022 scoring just 1 fifty.  He ended the year with the number 2 spot in the ICC T20I batter rankings after staying at number 1 for a brief while.

Sam Curran was named the player of the tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He grabbed a total of 13 wickets including his best figures of 5 for 10 against Afghanistan. Curran took 3 for 12 in his 4 overs in the finals to restrict Pakistan to a modest total and help them to win their 2nd ICC T20 title. The all-rounder picked 25 wickets from 19 matches and scored 67 runs.

Sikander Raza also performed brilliantly for Zimbabwe in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. He scored 735 runs at a strike rate of over 150. The off-spinner also picked 25 wickets in 24 matches at an economy of 6.13 including 10 wickets from 8 matches in a prestigious tournament. Zimbabwe qualified from the qualifying round finishing top of the points table. They stunned Pakistan by 1 run as Sikander Raza was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 25.

Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I performance in 2022

Suryakumar Yadav has been in sensational form during T20I cricket for Team India. He ended the year 2022 with 1164 runs from 31 matches (31 innings) including 2 centuries and 9 half-centuries to his name.

He scored breath-taking 117 off 55 balls including 14 fours and 6 sixes in the 3rd T20I match against England but could not take India across the line. Surya showed his class during the T20 World Cup 2022 played in Australia. He looked in great touch during the prestigious tournament with 239 runs from 6 matches and finished as the 3rd leading run-getter.

His best performance came during the Group game against South Africa at Optus Stadium, Perth. He made a brilliant 68, helping Team India recover from a tough situation. In 2022, Surya scored a strike rate of 187.43.
