Former cricketer Kapil Dev is not confident about Team India’s chances of qualifying for the knock-out stages of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia. Team India will begin their campaign on Sunday, October 23 against Pakistan in Melbourne. They won the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007, but since then, haven’t been able to get their hands on the coveted trophy.

Team India is heading into the T20 World Cup with a 2-1 T20I series win against South Africa. The warm-up series against Western Australia earlier this month ended in a tie, while India secured a win in their first practice match of the T20 World Cup. They defeated Australia by six runs in Brisbane.

Speaking about India’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup 2022, Kapil Dev said as quoted by Times Now,

“In T20 cricket, the team winning a match can lose the next… It’s very difficult to talk about the chances of India winning the World Cup. The issue is can they make it to the top four? And I am concerned about their making it to the top four, only then anything can be said. For me, it’s just a 30 % chance of India making it to the top (last) four.”

Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for India: Kapil Dev

Former India cricketer Kapil Dev further expressed that all-rounders are key players and they form the strength of the team. He added that Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for them, as he gives the captain the liberty to make use of six bowlers. Kapil Dev said,

“What more do you want in the side other than having all-rounders who could win matches for a side not only in the World Cup but in all other matches or events? A cricketer like Hardik Pandya has been quite useful for India. All-rounders are the key players of any side, and they become the strength of a team.”

“An all-rounder like Hardik gives Rohit Sharma the liberty to make use of the sixth bowler in a match. He is a good batter, bowler, and fielder too. Ravindra Jadeja is also a perfect all-rounder for India,” he added.
