Even while being miles away from home, Team India found a way to celebrate the festival of lights together in Adelaide. Ahead of the crucial second ODI against Australia, Indian cricket stars, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and captain Shubman Gill, gathered for a Diwali dinner at a popular Indian restaurant named British Raj in the Adelaide suburb of Torrensville.
The restaurant, known for its authentic Indian cuisine, has long been a favourite among Indian cricketers touring Australia. The festive gathering offered the players a comforting reminder of home, with laughter and camaraderie replacing the intense pressure of competition for an evening. Cameras captured the team’s arrival, with notable appearances from Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Kumar Reddy, while the restaurant owner was also seen posing for photos alongside Rohit Sharma and other players.

A Moment Of Unity After A Tough Start
The dinner came at a crucial juncture for Team India, who suffered a setback in the opening ODI at Perth. With the series now hanging in the balance, the get-together served as both a morale booster and a reminder of the team’s unity. Such bonding moments have become a tradition in recent years, with the squad often organising small team gatherings during international tours.
Earlier this month, the team was seen dining at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence in Delhi ahead of a Test match against the West Indies. These moments away from the field often play a vital role in recharging the players mentally, allowing them to return to the pitch with renewed focus and energy.
British Raj, A Familiar Spot With Mixed Memories
Interestingly, the British Raj restaurant holds a special, albeit bittersweet, place in Indian cricketing memory. During the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Indian team had also dined there before their semifinal against England — a match that ended in heartbreak with a 10-wicket defeat. The coincidence has not gone unnoticed by fans, who are hoping for a different outcome this time around.
As Team India prepares for the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval, the venue’s history remains challenging, with mixed results in recent years. However, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the Men in Blue will look to turn the tide and level the series, while Australia, captained by Mitchell Marsh, aims to secure an unassailable 2-0 lead before the final encounter later this week.
