Team India is set to compete in the 2025 Asia Cup, which kicks off on September 9 in Dubai. Although the team is expected to land in Dubai by September 4, NDTV Sports reports that the players will not be traveling together for the tournament.

The 15-member squad will be captained by Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill making his return and named as vice-captain. Typically, players gather in Mumbai before departing for major tournaments, but this time, they’ll be allowed to travel from their respective hometowns for logistical ease.

“All the players will arrive in Dubai by the evening of September 4, and the first nets session will be held on September 5 at the ICC Academy. Factoring in logistical convenience, the players will be allowed to fly into Dubai from their respective cities,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source.

The 2025 Asia Cup will be contested in the T20 format. India’s most recent white-ball outing was the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they clinched the title by beating New Zealand. Interestingly, that tournament also took place in Dubai.

“Obviously, a few will travel from Mumbai, but asking some of the others to first come to Mumbai and then fly to Dubai doesn’t make sense. In any case, Dubai is a short-duration flight compared to other international flights,” the official added.

India’s Asia Cup Stars Sharpen Skills In 2025 Duleep Trophy

Several members of India’s 2025 Asia Cup squad are also involved in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, which began on August 28. Fast bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana have been included in the North Zone team. Wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who didn’t feature during the recent England tour, has been selected for the Central Zone squad.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, originally expected to captain North Zone, will not be participating. Tilak Varma, named captain of the South Zone side, will also miss the tournament, as their semifinal clash is set to start on September 4, the same day Team India is scheduled to land in Dubai for the Asia Cup.
