Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel reportedly missed Central Zone’s Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinal against North East Zone due to a groin injury. According to a Times of India report, the 24-year-old opted out on the selectors’ advice, with bigger events like the Asia Cup on the horizon.

Jurel had been named in the Central Zone squad for the tournament, which began in Bengaluru on Thursday, August 28. In his absence, Aryan Juyal was drafted as the wicketkeeper-batter in the playing XI.

“Jurel has picked up a groin niggle on the eve of the match and he has been asked to skip this match by the selectors,” A BCCI source told Times of India.

The report added that the selectors preferred to play it safe, as Dhruv Jurel has been named a standby for the 2025 Asia Cup, starting September 7.

“He is also in the standbys of the Asia Cup squad and the selectors don’t want to take any risk. Right after the Asia Cup, India will be playing four Test matches at home and with uncertainty over (Rishabh) Pant’s injury, Jurel has been asked not to take any risk,” the source said.

Abhimanyu Easwaran Sidelined From Duleep Trophy Quarterfinal With Flu

Top-order batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran was ruled out of East Zone’s Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinal against North Zone after catching the flu on the morning of the match, the report said. In his absence, Riyan Parag captained East Zone. Easwaran had been named East Zone captain after Ishan Kishan withdrew due to injury.

The 29-year-old right-handed batter was included in India’s squad for the five-Test series against England but did not feature in any matches. His father, Ranganathan Easwaran, mentioned that Abhimanyu seemed a bit downhearted after missing the opportunity to play for the national team.
