Team India will play three ODIs and five T20Is against Sri Lanka in July. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed the same to Sportstar. It is also expected that a second-string Indian squad can be sent to play the series with the Virat Kohli-led side. However, the dates for the upcoming series is not confirmed as yet. In this chat Ganguly shares his thoughts on the challenges faced over the past 14 months and the forthcoming series in England, which he reckons will be tougher than the one against Australia.
Notably, Virat Kohli’s side will be on the tour of England during that time and it is expected that BCCI will be sending a different team for the Sri Lanka series, which will include players that do not feature in India’s recently-selected squad for the WTC Final and the 5-match Test series.

Team India will be playing the final of the World Test Championship in Southampton from June 18-22. Then they are scheduled to play against Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will be playing 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs against Eoin Morgan’s side in England and the tour comes to an end on July 4. Meanwhile, the test series between India and England also starts from August 4. This means that there is a month’s window for the series against Sri Lanka to be played.
Considering the strict travel restrictions in place due to COVID for the players it might so happen that BCCI might announce a second-string Indian squad for the series.
The T20 World Cup to be played between September-October is the next big series involving India. It will be interesting to see if the BCCI actually announces a second-string squad or if India’s full-strength squad returns back to play the series and travel back for the Test series.
