Former South Africa batter AB de Villiers’ return to international cricket is one of the most debated topics at present. He is a batting powerhouse and is considered one of the modern-day greats. De Villiers’ premature retirement in 2018 after an illustrious career of 15 years left the entire cricketing fraternity shocked.

AB De Villiers’ last outing for Proteas came against Australia in a Test match at Johannesburg in March-April 2018 as in the very next month, he put forth his decision of hanging his boots at the age of 34. Though, AB put an end to his international career, time and again he has proved that a lot of cricket is still left in him.

The right-handed batter has been in superlative form for his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has time and again produced some magical knocks with his bat that have left the entire fraternity in awe. Meanwhile, AB De Villiers’ brilliant performance in the T20 leagues across the globe has often sparked rumors regarding his potential comeback in international cricket for South Africa.

AB de Villiers to return during West Indies series

Last month, Proteas head coach Mark Boucher revealed that he has had a conversation with De Villiers and looked quite optimistic about his return. When asked, the 37-year-old also gave a positive response as well while speaking in the post-match presentation of an IPL 2021 match.

“It will be fantastic to play for South Africa again, I will be speaking with Boucher late end of IPL – last year, he asked me whether I am interested and I said ‘absolutely’,” he stated.

A month after, South Africa’s Director Of Cricket Operations Graeme Smith has also indicated a possible return of AB de Villiers. The former South Africa captain also hinted at the return of Imran Tahir and all-rounder Chris Morris that will bolster their squad ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Smith spoke about the comeback of AB de Villiers while announcing that South Africa will be touring West Indies for two Test matches and five T20 Internationals. Going by the hints given by the CSA Director, the fans can see AB de Villiers don the SA colors again during the five-match T20I series against West Indies.
